St. Anthony Mary Claret Patron Saint of Weavers

St. Anthony Mary Claret was a Spanish Roman Catholic archbishop, missionary, and founder of the Claretian Missionaries. He was born on December 23, 1807, in the village of Salient, Catalonia, Spain. He was the fifth of eleven children of a weaver and a seamstress, and he grew up in a poor but devout family.

As a young man, Anthony Mary was deeply religious and felt a calling to the priesthood. He entered the seminary at the age of 18 and was ordained as a priest in 1835. After his ordination, he became a missionary and traveled throughout Spain, preaching and evangelizing.

In 1849, Anthony Mary was appointed the Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba, a position he held for six years. During his time as archbishop, he worked tirelessly to reform the Church and to improve the lives of the poor. He also founded the Claretian Missionaries, a religious order of priests and brothers dedicated to evangelization and social justice.

In 1855, Anthony Mary resigned as archbishop and returned to Spain. He continued to work as a missionary and to lead the Claretian Missionaries, traveling throughout Europe and Latin America to preach and evangelize. He was known for his eloquent and passionate preaching, and he was deeply devoted to his work.

Despite facing many challenges and obstacles, Anthony Mary remained deeply committed to his mission of spreading the gospel and helping others. He worked tirelessly to serve the poor and to bring people closer to Jesus, and his efforts had a profound impact on the lives of countless people.

In Latin America, Anthony Mary worked to bring the gospel to people who had not yet heard it and to help those who were in need. He established mission stations and schools, and he worked to improve the lives of the poor and marginalized. He was deeply devoted to his work, and his efforts had a profound impact on the Church in Latin America.

Anthony Mary died on October 24, 1870, at the age of 62. He was beatified by Pope Pius XII in 1950 and canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1950. Today, he is remembered and honored as a saint and a model of evangelization and social justice.
