Biography of St. John Licci

St. John Licci was an Italian Catholic saint and mystic born in 1390 in the region of Calabria. He was a layman and a farmer, who lived a simple and humble life. Throughout his life, he devoted himself to God and to serving the poor and suffering.

At a young age, John had a profound spiritual experience that marked the beginning of his deep devotion to God. He spent most of his adult life working on a farm, but he also spent a significant amount of time in prayer, fasting, and acts of charity. He was known for his generosity, his kindness and his strong faith.

John had a special devotion to the Virgin Mary and he would often visit a local shrine dedicated to her. He spent much of his free time helping the poor and the sick, and he was known to have performed many miracles, including healings and deliverances from evil spirits.

In 1413, John had a vision of St. Francis of Assisi, who urged him to join the Franciscan Order. John joined the Order and took the name Brother John of Licci. He became a spiritual director and a confessor, and he gained a reputation for his wisdom and his holiness.

John died on October 9, 1456 and was buried in a small chapel in the town of Licci. After his death, many miracles were reported at his tomb, and he was soon revered as a saint. He was canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1839, along with another Calabrian layman, St. Gerard Majella.

St. John Licci is considered the patron saint of farmers and the Calabria region. His devotion to God, his compassion for the poor, and his simple and humble life continue to inspire many people today.
