Saint Juliana of Cumae was a 4th century Christian saint who is revered for her devotion to God and her tireless efforts to spread the Gospel. She was born in the city of Cumae, which is located in modern-day Italy, and was raised in a Christian family. From an early age, Juliana was deeply spiritual and committed to living a life that reflected her faith.

As a young woman, Juliana decided to dedicate herself fully to God and become a nun. She entered a convent and spent the rest of her life in prayer, fasting, and service to others. She was known for her kindness and compassion, and she spent her days helping the poor, the sick, and the marginalized.

St. Juliana’s Eucharistic Miracle

According to legend, Juliana was a consecrated virgin who lived in a small cell attached to the Church of San Giovanni in Fonte in Cumae, Italy. She was known for her great piety and her love for the Eucharist. Juliana spent much of her time in prayer and meditation, and she devoted herself to the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

One day, while she was praying before the tabernacle, Juliana had a vision of a full moon with a small dark spot on it. The Lord spoke to her and told her that the dark spot represented the absence of a feast in honor of the Eucharist. The Lord told Juliana that she must work to establish this feast in the Church, so that all believers could honor the mystery of the Eucharist.

Juliana took this message to heart and began to pray and fast for the establishment of the feast. She also shared her vision with other believers, and together they began to petition the Church authorities to recognize the feast.

After many years of perseverance, the feast of Corpus Christi (the Body of Christ) was finally recognized and celebrated by the Church. The feast became a time of great joy and devotion, and it continues to be celebrated by Catholics around the world to this day.

St. Juliana’s lasting Legacy

Despite facing numerous challenges and persecution, Juliana remained steadfast in her faith and committed to spreading the Gospel. She traveled throughout the region, preaching and teaching about the love of Jesus, and she converted many people to Christianity.

Juliana was also a strong advocate for the poor and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those who were suffering. She helped to establish hospitals and orphanages, and she worked to provide food, clothing, and shelter to those in need.

In recognition of her selfless service and devotion to God, Juliana was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church. She is remembered today as a model of Christian charity and a symbol of hope and inspiration to all those who follow in her footsteps.

Children’s Story about St. Juliana

There was a young girl named Juliana who lived in a city called Cumae, in the beautiful country of Italy. Juliana was a very special girl, because she loved God more than anything else in the world.

From the time she was a baby, Juliana’s parents had taught her about God and His love for her. They went to church every Sunday and prayed together as a family, and Juliana learned to love the Lord and to trust in His goodness.

As she grew older, Juliana wanted to do something special to show her love for God. She decided to become a nun, and to dedicate her life to serving Him. She knew that this would be a hard path, but she was ready to follow wherever the Lord led her.

So Juliana went to a convent, where she lived with other nuns who also loved God. She prayed and worked hard every day, helping to take care of the poor and the sick. She was a kind and gentle person, and everyone who knew her loved her.

One day, Juliana had a special dream. In her dream, she saw a beautiful garden, filled with flowers and fruit trees. She saw a fountain in the center of the garden, and a voice told her that this was a special place, a place where she could always find God’s love and peace.

When Juliana woke up from her dream, she knew that God was calling her to do something special. She felt a great desire to share her dream with others, to help them find the same peace and joy that she had found.

So Juliana began to tell everyone about her dream. She told her friends, her family, and even the people she met on the street. She told them that they, too, could find God’s love and peace if they would only open their hearts to Him.

And as she shared her dream, Juliana saw many people’s hearts open to the Lord. She saw their faces light up with joy, and she knew that God was at work in their lives.

Reflection on the Feast of St. Juliana Falconeri

Today the Catholic church celebrates the feast day of St. Juliana Falconieri on June 19th.

Today is the feast day of Saint Juliana Falconeri, a founding member of the Servite order, who is known for the miracle that occurred at her death. According to tradition, Juliana was unable to receive the Eucharist due to her illness, but asked for the Corporal to be placed on her breast and for a host to be placed on top of it. When the host disappeared, a cross was found on Juliana’s breast and she expired. This event led to her being honored as a saint and she is often depicted with the habit of her order and the host on her breast.

Pope Benedict XVI has written about the mystery of transubstantiation in relation to the Eucharist and the experience of death. He reflects on the Last Supper as an anticipation of the resurrection and how the act of love and obedience to the Father’s will at the Last Supper conquers death. This act of love is a radical transformation, the power of the resurrection already present in the shadow of death.

In his writing, Pope Benedict also highlights the importance of the communion of suffering, or the recognition that the mystical body of Christ is present in the poor, hungry, and downtrodden. He emphasizes that this communion cannot be separated from the liturgy and that we should not be able to have beautiful liturgical celebrations while ignoring the needs of those in the world who are hungry and in need.

As we celebrate the feast of Saint Juliana Falconeri, let us reflect on the mystery of the Eucharist and the reality of Christ’s presence in it. Let us also remember the importance of being in solidarity with those who are suffering and to seek ways to bring the love and hope of Christ to them.
