St. Maria Bertilla Boscardin was a 20th century Italian Saint, who is known for her devotion to the sick and her work with children suffering from tuberculosis. She was born on October 25, 1888 in Coggiola, Italy and was the oldest of four children. Growing up, she was deeply devout and had a strong desire to become a nun.
In 1906, St. Maria Bertilla Boscardin entered the Sisters of St. Mary of Providence, where she took the name Sister Bertilla. After completing her novitiate, she spent several years working as a teacher, but her true calling was to work with the sick and the poor.
In 1915, St. Maria Bertilla Boscardin began working at a hospital for children suffering from tuberculosis in Coggiola. She worked tirelessly to care for the children, often spending hours at their bedsides and tending to their every need. She became known as the “Angel of the Little Ones” and her devotion to the sick children touched the hearts of many.
St. Maria Bertilla Boscardin’s work with the sick children was not limited to her time at the hospital.
