St. Seraphina

St. Seraphina Biography

St. Seraphina, also known as St. Fina, is a beloved saint in the Catholic Church who is venerated for her enduring faith and courage in the face of severe suffering. Born in San Gimignano, Italy in the 13th century, Fina was a devoted and charitable young girl who had a strong devotion to prayer and serving others. When she was struck with a mysterious illness that deformed her head, hands, eyes, and feet, she remained patient and accepting, always striving for peace in her suffering.

Despite her physical pain and the loss of her parents, Fina never complained and remained grateful to God. She developed a devotion to St. Gregory the Great, and he appeared to her in a dream, foretelling the day of her death. When she passed away on the feast of St. Gregory, the wooden plank on which she had rested was covered in white flowers, a sign of her holiness.

Fina’s unwavering faith and selfless love for others made her an inspiration to the people of San Gimignano, who frequently visited her during her illness. Her relics now rest in the reliquary chapel of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on Notre Dame’s campus, and she is remembered as a powerful example of hope and strength in the face of adversity. St. Seraphina, pray for us.

The Catholic Church celebrates the feast of St. Seraphina on March 12th.
