St. John was born in Portugal in 1495. His parents were poor, but devout and charitable and served as perfect role models for the future saint.

It was during the persecution of Diocletian, in 305, that Saint Januarius, who was Bishop of Benevento, Italy, and other loyal Christians suffered martyrdom for the Faith.

St. John was born at Antioch in 344. He was surnamed Chrysostom, which means “Golden Mouthed”, because of his eloquent sermons and the life-changing impact his words had on all those who heard him preach.

St Rosalia is venerated not only at Palermo, her native city but throughout Sicily, of which she is patroness.

St. Gregory, because of his profound skill in sacred learning, was surnamed the Theologian. For ten years the young Gregory read law at Athens and then joined St. Basil in his monastic solitude near the river Iris in Pontus.
