There is no doubt that St. Stephen was one of the seventy-two disciples of Christ; for, immediately after the descent of the Holy Spiit, we find him perfectly instructed in the Christian teachings.

St. John was born near Avila, Spain, in 1542. At the age of twenty-two he entered the Carmelite Order and took the name of John of the Cross. He was ordained Priest in 1567, and led a most holy, austere, prayerful life.

St. Lucy was born in Syracuse, Sicily, of wealthy, honorable Christian parents. However, at the age of fourteen she was betrothed by them to a young pagan nobleman.

Saint Francis was born at the castle of Xavier on April 7, 1506, near Pampeluna, Spain. Destined for a career in academia, he was sent to the University of Paris to complete his course of Humanities.

St. Benjamin was a Deacon of the Church in Persia in the 5th century. The Christians in Persia had enjoyed peace for twelve years, when Abdas, a Christian Bishop, in 420, indiscreetly ordered the destruction of the Pyraeum, or Temple of Fire, the great divinity of the Persians.
