Saint Aidan was an Irish monk and missionary who lived in the 7th century AD. He was born in Ireland and was a disciple of Saint Columba. Aidan was sent to Northumbria, England, to preach the gospel. He founded the monastery at Lindisfarne, which became a center of Christianity in England. Saint Aidan died in 651 AD and is buried at Lindisfarne. He is the patron saint of firefighters and animals.
