Saint Ava was a Saxon nun and abbess who lived in the 9th century. She was born in Germany in 757. Ava founded the monastery at Gandersheim, which became a center of learning and culture. She died in Gandersheim in 851. She is the patron saint of musicians, singers, and poets.
