Saint Bernadette Soubirous was a French Roman Catholic saint and mystic. She was born in Lourdes, France, in 1844. Bernadette experienced visions of the Virgin Mary in 1858. These visions are now known as the Lourdes apparitions. Bernadette died in 1879 and was canonized as a saint in 1933. She is the patron saint of sick people, pilgrims, and Lourdes.
