Saint Brigid of Ireland was an Irish abbess, founder of monasteries, and one of Ireland’s patron saints. She was born in Faughart, Ireland, in c. 451. Brigid was a gifted leader and organizer. She founded several monasteries, including the monastery of Kildare, which became a center of learning and culture. Brigid died in Kildare, Ireland, in c. 525. She is the patron saint of Ireland, dairy maids, and poets.
