Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton was an American Roman Catholic nun and the founder of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Joseph. She was born in New York City, New York, in 1774. Elizabeth was a devout Catholic who was known for her charity and her love of the poor. She died in Emmitsburg, Maryland, in 1821. She is the patron saint of the United States.
