Saint Francis Xavier was a Spanish Jesuit missionary who was one of the most important figures in the early history of the Jesuits. He was born in Javier, Navarre, Spain, in 1506. Francis was a gifted preacher and missionary. He traveled extensively throughout Asia, preaching the gospel and establishing churches. He died on Shangchuan Island, China, in 1552. He is the patron saint of Japan, the Missions, and the sick.
