St. Jerome was a 4th- and 5th-century Roman Catholic priest, confessor, and Doctor of the Church. He was born in Stridon, Dalmatia, in c. 347. Jerome was a gifted scholar and linguist. He was also a gifted writer and translator. He is best known for his translation of the Bible into Latin, which is known as the Vulgate. He died in Bethlehem, Palestine, in 420. He is the patron saint of librarians, translators, and students.
