Saint Lawrence was a 3rd-century Roman deacon who was martyred during the persecution of Christians by the Roman emperor Valerian. He was born in Huesca, Spain, in c. 225 AD. Lawrence was a gifted deacon who was known for his charity and his love of the poor. He died in Rome, Italy, in c. 258 AD. He is the patron saint of cooks, librarians, and those who have been unjustly accused.
