Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska was a 20th-century Polish Roman Catholic nun who is known for her devotion to the Divine Mercy. She is the author of the Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, which is a collection of her writings about her experiences with the Divine Mercy. She died in Kraków, Poland, in 1938. She was canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II in 2000. She is the patron saint of Divine Mercy and of those who are struggling with depression and addiction.
