    • Saint Maria Goretti was an Italian Roman Catholic martyr who was canonized as a saint by Pope Pius XII in 1950. She was born in Corinaldo, Italy, in 1890. Goretti was a devout Catholic who was known for her charity and her love of the poor. She was murdered at the age of 12 by a neighbor who tried to rape her. She is the patron saint of purity, rape victims, and children.
