Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, also known as Padre Pio, was a 20th-century Italian Capuchin friar who is known for his stigmata and his gift of bilocation. He was born in Pietrelcina, Italy, in 1887. Padre Pio was a gifted confessor and a compassionate man. He died in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, in 1968. He was canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II in 2002. He is the patron saint of difficult cases, of the sick, and of the persecuted.
