ST. REMIGIUS
Saint Remigius, the great apostle of France, was one of the shining lights of the Church of Gaul. Illustrious for his learning, eloquence, sanctity and miracles, at the age of twenty-two he became Bishop of Rheims. His episcopacy covered the years of Clovis, King of the Franks, whom he baptized. He led the Franks to the Faith of Christ the Lord by his teaching and miracles; raised a dead girl to life by his prayers; expounded many books of Holy Scripture; and governed the Church of Rheims in the most praiseworthy manner for more than seventy years. By his zealous en deavors he promoted the Catholic Faith in Burgundy, and completely crushed idolatry and the Arian heresy in the French dominions. St. Remigius died in 533, during the ninety-fourth year of his age. The holiness of his life and death was proved by many miracles which later occurred. The holy Archbishop was buried at Rheims. In 852, and again in 1646, the Saint’s body was found incorrupt.
