St. Frances of Rome Biography
St. Frances of Rome was a 15th-century Italian saint and mystic who is known for her devotion to God and her service to the poor. She was born in Rome in the year 1384 to a noble family, and from an early age, she showed a deep love for God and a desire to live a life of service.
Despite her privileged upbringing, Frances was deeply devoted to the poor and spent much of her time caring for the sick and the needy. She was also deeply spiritual and spent much of her time in prayer and contemplation.
In the year 1425, Frances married a wealthy nobleman named Lorenzo Ponziano and had three children. Despite the demands of her family and her responsibilities as a wife and mother, Frances remained deeply devoted to God and continued to serve the poor and the sick.
Establishing The Oblates of Mary
In 1433, Frances founded a community of lay women known as the “Oblate of Mary” who dedicated themselves to a life of service and prayer. She also established a hospital for the poor and the sick, which she ran with the help of her community.

Reflection on the Feast of St. Frances of Rome
Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of St. Frances of Rome on March 9th.
As we celebrate the feast of St. Frances of Rome, it is fitting to reflect on the challenges and difficulties that she faced in her life. Born into an aristocratic family, Frances was pressured to marry at a young age, but she remained devoted to her husband and her children for 40 years. Despite the political and ecclesiastical turmoil of her time, including the Great Schism in the Catholic Church, Frances remained focused on living a life of prayer, penance, and charity. She even founded a convent in Rome, which has remained open to this day.
In these troubled times, when the Catholic Church is facing scandals and challenges, it is helpful to remember the example of St. Frances and the many other saints who have gone before us. They remind us that even in the midst of difficulties, we are called to live a life of prayer, penance, and charity. We are all called to be saints, and by responding to this call, we can have a powerful influence on the world around us. As we pray for a new pope to lead the church, let us ask for the grace to be heroic in our faith, just as St. Frances was. May God bless us and save us, and may he send us a holy pope to guide us on the path to holiness.
