Who was St. Joseph Marello
St. Joseph Marello was a Catholic saint who was born in Italy in 1844. He was the son of poor farmers and showed a deep love for God from a young age. After completing his education, he was ordained a priest in 1867 and served as a pastor in several Italian towns.
In 1884, St. Joseph was appointed the bishop of Acqui, a position in which he worked tirelessly to promote the spiritual and temporal well-being of his people. He established schools and hospitals, and worked to improve the lives of the poor and disadvantaged.
St. Joseph was also known for his devotion to the Eucharist and his strong devotion to the Blessed Mother. He founded the Congregation of the Oblates of St. Joseph, a religious order dedicated to spreading the Gospel and serving the poor and sick.
Throughout his life, St. Joseph was known for his humility, compassion, and deep love for God. He was canonized a saint by Pope Pius XII in 1954.

Detailed Biography of St. Joseph Marello
St. Joseph Marello, a revered figure in the Catholic Church, was born on December 26, 1844, in Turin, Italy. His journey towards priesthood began amidst personal trials and societal upheavals. Orphaned of his mother at a young age, he moved to San Martino Alfieri, his father’s hometown. Despite his father’s wish for him to pursue a career in business, Marello felt a strong calling towards religious life. His path to priesthood was solidified when he contracted typhoid fever and promised to dedicate his life to God if he survived.
After his recovery, Marello entered the seminary and was ordained a priest in 1868. He served as secretary to Bishop Carlo Savio of Asti for 13 years, during which he gained valuable pastoral experience. He was later appointed as the Bishop of Acqui in 1889.
Throughout his life, Marello had a deep devotion to St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus. Inspired by St. Joseph’s humility and obedience, Marello founded the Oblates of St. Joseph in 1878. The Oblates is a congregation dedicated to serving the poor and educating the youth, following the example of their patron saint.
Marello’s episcopal motto was “God Alone”, reflecting his complete trust in God’s providence. He led a life of simplicity and humility, always putting the needs of his flock before his own. His pastoral letters often emphasized the importance of humility, obedience, and charity.
St. Joseph Marello passed away on May 30, 1895. His legacy continues today through the work of the Oblates of St. Joseph in various parts of the world. He was beatified by Pope Paul VI in 1975 and canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2001.
