St. Joshua Biography

Joshua was a biblical figure. He is a prophet and leader of the Israelites in the Old Testament, he was appointed by God as the successor of Moses to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land.

He is mostly known as the leader that succeeded Moses and led the Israelites to conquer the land of Canaan. He is also known for leading the people across the Jordan River, and his role in the Battle of Jericho. He is also a figure in the book of Joshua in the Old Testament of the Bible, this book tells of how Joshua lead the Israelite in the conquest of Canaan.

Joshuah was also seen as a type of Jesus in the New Testament. He led the Israelites across the Jordan River, as Jesus will lead humanity to the “promised land” of heaven. Joshua was a man of great faith and obedience, who trusted in the power of God to guide and protect him.

He also was an important figure for the Israelites in terms of their identity and the bond between the people and God. Joshua was the one that reaffirmed the Covenant between God and the Israelites.

During his time as leader he built an altar on Mount Ebal and renewed the Covenant between God and the Israelites. This act of faith is seen as an important moment in the formation of Israel as a nation and its commitment to God’s laws.
