Prayer for Engineers:

Heavenly Father, we ask that you bless all engineers with wisdom, skill and creativity. We pray that you guide them as they design and build the structures and systems that support our communities and improve our lives. We ask that you grant them the strength and determination to overcome the challenges of their profession. We pray that you bless them with the ability to think critically and to solve problems with innovation. We ask that you watch over them and protect them as they work, and bless their families and loved ones with your love and grace. We ask all of this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Patron Saints of Engineers

  1. Saint Isidore of Seville (560-636) – Known as the “Patron Saint of the Internet,” Saint Isidore of Seville was a Spanish bishop and theologian who is credited with writing the first encyclopedia of human knowledge. He is also considered the patron saint of computer technicians and engineers due to his extensive knowledge and writings on a wide range of subjects.

  2. Saint Barbara (4th century) – Known as the “Patron Saint of Engineers,” Saint Barbara was a Christian martyr who is said to have been tortured and killed for her faith. She is considered the patron saint of engineers, builders, and architects due to her association with the construction of a tower.

  3. Saint John the Apostle (1st century) – Known as the “Patron Saint of Engineers,” Saint John the Apostle was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and the author of the Gospel of John. He is considered the patron saint of engineers, builders, and architects because of his work as a carpenter.

  4. Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) – Known as the “Angelic Doctor,” Saint Thomas Aquinas was a Dominican friar, theologian, and philosopher who is considered one of the greatest minds in the history of the Catholic Church. He is also considered the patron saint of engineers, builders, and architects due to his writings on the natural sciences and the relationship between faith and reason.

  5. Saint Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) – Known as the “Patron Saint of Ecology,” Saint Francis of Assisi was an Italian friar who is famous for his devotion to poverty and his love for nature. He is considered the patron saint of engineers, builders, and architects due to his teachings on the importance of protecting and preserving the natural environment.

  6. Saint Vincent de Paul (1581-1660) – Known as the “Patron Saint of Charitable Societies,” Saint Vincent de Paul was a French Catholic priest who is famous for his work with the poor and his efforts to improve social conditions. He is also considered the patron saint of engineers, builders, and architects due to his work in improving the lives of the poor and marginalized.

  7. Saint Paul the Apostle (1st century) – Known as the “Patron Saint of Missionaries,” Saint Paul the Apostle was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and the author of several letters in the New Testament. He is also considered the patron saint of engineers, builders, and architects due to his work spreading Christianity and building up the Church.

What the Catholic Church says about Engineers

The Catholic Church teaches that engineers have a special role in serving the common good by using their skills and knowledge to improve the lives of others. According to the Church, engineering is a form of service to others and should be guided by a commitment to the common good and the dignity of the human person.

The Church teaches that the primary goal of engineering is to design and build structures and systems that promote the well-being of society, and that this goal should be pursued in a way that respects the environment and the moral principles of the Church.
