What does the Bible say about farmers

Prayers for farmersThe Bible has several references to farmers and farming. Here are a few key verses:

  • Psalm 65:9-13 says, “You care for the land and water it; you make it rich and fertile. The river of God is full of water; you provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. The grasslands of the wilderness overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing.”

  • Ecclesiastes 3:2 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” This verse reminds farmers that there is a season for planting and a season for harvesting, and they should trust in God’s timing.

  • 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 says, “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” This verse encourages farmers to be generous in their giving and to trust that God will bless their efforts.

  • James 5:7 says, “Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.” This verse reminds farmers that their work requires patience, as they wait for crops to grow and mature.

These verses show that the Bible values the work of farmers and recognizes the importance of their role in providing for their communities. They also encourage farmers to trust in God’s timing, to be generous and patient, and to have faith in His provision.
