    Who is the Patron Saint of Women Workers?

    Saint Anne had the inestimable privilege of being chosen by God from eternity to be the mother of the Mother of the Savior of mankind. According to tradition St. Anne and her spouse, St. Joachim lived in Nazareth. They were of the tribe of Judah and of the royal House of David, and are venerated by the Church as the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Both have been honored as Saints from early times. God bestowed upon St. Anne wonderful gifts and graces, and she longingly and devoutly prayed for the ad vent of the Redeemer.

    When we contemplate Mary’s Immaculate Heart, we have some faint idea of the sanctity and holiness of her mother, good St. Anne. Innumerable churches and chapels in every century have been erected in her honor. During the past three centuries miracles have occurred at her shrine at Beaupré, Canada. The relics of St. Anne are said to have been brought from Palestine to Constantinople in the 8th century and were still kept there in the church of St. Sophia in 1333. The head of St. Anne was venerated in Mayence, Germany, up to 1510, when it was stolen and brought Duren in the Rhineland. St. Anne is Patroness of Brittany; of the province of Quebec, Canada; Patroness of women in labor, and of miners.
