This St. Genevieve Saint Medal honors one of the bravest and most holy women of the Church. St. Genevieve lived during the dying days of the Western Roman Empire and the establishing of the Kingdom of the Franks. From this kingdom evolved the modern country of France. When barely seven, Genevieve promised St. Germain, Bishop of Auxerre, that she would embrace the religious life. When fifteen she made her vow of virginity before the Bishop of Paris. She lived in Paris in partial seclusion and became known for her great sanctity. In 451 when Attila and his Huns swept toward Paris she persuaded the people not to flee the city. She told them that instead they should pray and do penance. They did so, and Paris was spared.

Later, when the Franks were besieging Paris, Genevieve secured food for the people and kept them from starving. When the Franks eventually captured the city they treated Genevieve with great respect. King Clovis, who later became a Catholic, had great admiration for her. Genevieve died and was buried in Paris. Many miracles took place at her tomb. She is venerated as the patron of Paris.
