    Who is the Patron Saint of Young Education?

    When the pagan Saxons fled from the south of England into Gaul, some settled in Armorica; others in the Netherlands. near the mouth of the Rhine. St. Ursula and her companions seem to have left Britain about the year 453, and to have met martyrdom in defense of their virginity from the army of the savage Huns, which at that time was plundering the country and destroying everything by fire and the sword.

    The holy martyrs were buried at Cologne, where a large church was built over their tombs, which was very famous during the reign of St. Cunibert, who was Arch- bishop. Many miracles have taken place at their torbs and these holy martyrs have been honored by the faithful for centuries. St. Ursula, who was the leader and guide of so many holy souls, whom she encouraged in the practice of virtue and conducted to the glorious crown of martyrdom, is regarded as a model and patroness of those who undertake the training of youth. She is the Patron Saint of the famous college of Sorbonne and of the Ursuline Sisters, who were founded by St. Angela de Merici to educate young girls.
