It was Saint Peter Claver, the slave of the slaves forever, as he named himself when he made his religious profession in the Society of Jesus. His life was one of heroic love, of unreserved sacrifice, of supreme mortification. Peter was born at Verdu, near Barcelona, Spain, in June, 1581.

Saint Cyril was born in Thessalonica of a senatorial family. Renouncing secular honors he became a Priest and was consecrated Bishop by Pope Adrian II.

On September 24, 1836, Peter Chanel was one of the first of a group of seminarians, under the leadership of Father Jean Claude Marie Colin, to be professed in the religious institute which was founded in Lyons, France, in 1816, known as the “Priests of the Society of Mary”.

St. Peter Canisius was born in Holland on May 8, 1521. He was one of the first companions of St. Ignatius, and became a great theologian and preacher.

St. Paul, born of wealthy parents in Egypt about the year 230, became an orphan when fifteen years old. He was well educated and loved God from a young age.

St. Norbert was born at Xanten in the Rhineland of Germany in year 1080, to a princely family. He possessed rare talents, yet permitted himself to be carried away by worldly pleasures.

St. Colette was born in Picardy, France, in 1380. She lived for a period of time in several religious communities learning important lessons from each which helped to deepen and enrich her faith.
